Kilt Waistcoat Alterations – Waistcoat Too Big?
If your kilt waistcoat is too big, the best solution is to take it in without cutting away the excess fabric. I carefully open the side seams, fold and secure the surplus fabric inside, and stitch the waistcoat to its new size. This preserves the original garment and allows the waistcoat to be let out again in the future if needed.
There is simply no benefit in cutting away perfectly good fabric only to replace the entire back panel later if your size changes. By keeping the excess fabric hidden inside the waistcoat, future alterations are quicker, more cost-effective, and preserve the original garment. It’s the professional approach I recommend whenever possible.
Every alteration is carried out with care to achieve a neat, comfortable fit while maintaining the quality and appearance of your kilt waistcoat.
